KoD Event Format
Here is the multiple room format for the King of Daytona series. This will be an eliminator schedule to narrow a large group of drivers down to a single room. For now, the lag issues that arise when more than 10 cars are on the track will limit the numbers that can qualify for the final race. Until the issue is resolved, we will run no more than 11 cars in any room. Rooms are first come, first served, there will be no room asignments. room numbers will be adjusted as nessicary before the start of the event.
We will use a heat race format to determine the final drivers. Race night will consist of an "A" and "B" main, followed by an "LCQ" (Last Chance Qualifier) then a short shootout race for the front of the field to set the grid. Amount of drivers to advance from the qualifiers will depend on the number of rooms needed to accomidate all racers. All drivers will have 3 races for the night and a few will actually run 4.
Mains will consist of 6 - 10 in each room
12 - 20 drivers will split up into 2 rooms
21 - 30 drivers split to 3 rooms
31 - 40 drivers split to 4 rooms
If 2 rooms:
"A Main" - top 2 from each room go directly on to the "A Feature" (4 drivers)
"B Main" - top 2 from each room go to "A Feature" (4 drivers)
"LCQ" - still 2 rooms, winner of each room to "A Feature" (2 drivers)
"Shootout" - 4 drivers from "A Mains" run a 5 lap race to set top 4 spots in the "A Feature"
Total of 10 drivers in "A Feature"
If 3 rooms:
"A Main" - winner from each room go to "A Feature" (3 drivers)
"B Main" - winner from each room go to "A Feature" (3 drivers)
"LCQ" - if 22 or less drivers remain, 2 rooms - top 2 each room to "A Feature" (4 drivers)
If 23 or more drivers remain, 4 rooms - winner each room to "A Feature" (4 drivers)
"Shootout" - 3 winners from "A Mains" run 3 lap race to set top 3 spots in "A Feature"
Total of 10 drivers in "A Feature"
If 4 rooms:
"A Main" - winner from each room go to "A Feature" (4 drivers)
"B Main" - winner from each room go to "A Feature" (4 drivers)
"LCQ" - 3 rooms, winner of each room to "A Feature" (3 drivers)
"Shootout" - 4 winners of "A Mains" to 5 lap shootout to set top 4 spots
Total of 11 drivers in "A Feature"
(should we ever have to go to 5 rooms, an aditional eliminator round will have to be added)
Gridding the field:Example: 2 room setup
The 1st and 2nd place finishers from the A mains (4 drivers) race a 5 lapper and line up as they finish which sets the front 2 rows of the feature.
Row 3 is the 3rd place finishers from the B mains
Row 4 is the 4th place finishers from the B mains
Row 5 is the winners of the LCQ's
Regular self grid as we are doing every WRE race.
A second reason for a shootout event is to give those drivers who qualified in their first race a second race to run for the night so everybody will get to race at least 3 races for the night. The shootout race will be held in the lobby just before the feature when all the A feature drivers are present. The field can watch the short shootout race just before the final event.
"A main", "B main" and "LCQ" races will all be the same amount of laps. "A feature" will be a longer race. For now, there will be NO YELLOWS in the qualifiers. Yellows will most likely be used in the feature with some restrictions and a cutoff lap, after which there will be no more cautions. Race reviews, if needed, will be dome by RIP administrative staff ONLY. Judgement will be final and not subject to appeal. Some drivers will be going home early. Such is the nature of racing.
I have tried to cover as many issues as I could here. I will be glad to answer any questions or concerns about the format. No system is flawless, even if the creator is. (LOL!) Hopefully this format gives all partisipants a fair chance to race their way into the final.
